May is national bike month. In celebration, the South Bay Bike Coalition is working with different local organizations on different events that encourage safe cycling!
May 3: Bike To School Day, Manhattan Beach Middle School

3:30pm Kids – Make an LED license plate for your bike and experiment with moving bicycle gears made from K’NEX.
May 10: National Bike To School Day
Parents and children across the country are gearing up to participate in National Bike to School Day on May 10 th . If your children are already riding their bikes to school, kudos to you and your children! Consider inviting other families who are not to join you on May 10 th ! If your children are not riding their bike to school, this is an opportunity to give it a try!
Please review our BIKE TO SCHOOL SAFETY DOCUMENT, and get your bikes and helmets tuned and ready to go! In addition to the health benefits associated with riding a bike, numerous studies show that kids who exercise before school starts are more focused and perform better in the classroom!
May 10: Phil Gaimon at Torrance Library
7 PM – Former American professional road racing cyclist and anti-doping advocate who last rode for UCI World Tour, Phil “Cookie Monster” Gaimon shares his experiences as a cyclist, author, and entrepreneur. A noted blogger, Gaimon has written for VeloNews and Bicycling and has authored Pro Cycling on $10 and Ask a Pro. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
